FAQs

What is Green Shooting and Sustainable production?

Sustainable audiovisual production seeks to enable the production of fiction and entertainment without compromising our natural resources and at the same time feeding into the growth of the green economy. To this end, efforts are focused on incorporating an Eco Team capable of drafting a Sustainability Plan in the pre-production stage aimed at:

  • Identifying and prioritizing the negative impacts of each project.
  • Facilitating the purchase of recycled, biodegradable and locally-sourced materials.
  • Encouraging the use of local providers that offer sustainable products and services.
  • Reducing the generation of waste and ensuring its proper separation and management.
  • Minimizing impacts on biodiversity and working with projects for restoring ecosystems to offset any residual impact.
  • Measuring and offsetting the carbon footprint generated by a project.

Afterwards, during production, the Eco Team follows up on the planned sustainability measures, evaluating the real achievements each project has made in this area.

What is the Sustainable Development goal in the audiovisual sector?

The audiovisual sector has the opportunity to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and align with the European Green Deal as one of the sectors with the biggest impact on the world’s economy.

In this context, its commitment begins by taking stock of the negative impact it generates, to later consolidate short- and long-term footprint reduction commitments that ensure there is no net loss of environmental goods and services and which promote the generation of green employment.

What does Corporate Responsibility mean for an audiovisual producer?

Audiovisual producers form part of a business fabric that must provide a response to the tough environmental and social challenges facing the planet. They must therefore work towards establishing stable commitments aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and plan investments and actions that generate not only economic, but also environmental and social benefits.

This work is outlined in the Corporate Responsibility Strategies, and how closely these are followed is reflected in the annual reports that companies must provide their shareholders and investors or through the reports legally required by the Law on Non-Financial Information.

Who forms part of the Eco Team?

The generation of an audiovisual production’s Sustainability Plan and its implementation during filming is the responsibility of a team comprising:

  • An Eco Consultor: a sustainability expert capable of identifying and prioritizing the environmental impacts of each production and selecting the measures that must feature in the Sustainability Plan. They are also responsible for analyzing the carbon footprint and results obtained at the end of each shoot.
  • An Eco Manager: a professional assigned to each production who is responsible for implementing the Sustainability Plan during a shoot and advising during the pre-production stage on sustainable purchases and providers.
  • An Eco Production Assistant (Eco PA): a professional tasked with providing assistance on the film set and helping crews to comply with the sustainability measures.
Is Sustainable production profitable?

Sustainability is always profitable in the medium and long term, since it consists in optimizing processes and using only the resources that are strictly necessary for each occasion.

In the short term, to bring about change in the audiovisual sector, sustainability must be understood as an investment and a process, a path that must be followed in order to ensure long-lasting improvement.

Each sustainable production sees improvements in processes and the application of more criteria, helping to further reduce the environmental impact a production has on the planet.
