The European Film Market is hosting the third edition of Berlinale Series Market, an event dedicated to fiction content, organized in collaboration with the Berlinale Co-Production Market and Berlinale Talents. This event, aimed at professionals in the television industry, features Secuoya Studios as part of the initiative led by Iberseries & Platino Industria and Audiovisual from Spain.
The psychological thriller Matices, one of Secuoya Studios' most highly anticipated projects, was one of the featured case studies at the Spanish Thrillers showcase within Berlinale Series Market. The session, held at the iconic CinemaxX 1 multiplex in Potsdamer Platz, included the participation of María García-Castrillón, Director of Co-Productions at Secuoya Studios, and Sergio Cánovas, creator and director of Matices, alongside moderator John Hopewell, International Features Editor at Variety.
The showcase took place on the afternoon of February 17, highlighting the success of Spanish thrillers and their potential to travel worldwide, reaching new audiences. "Our actors are an essential part of our marketing; they are the key to selling the series, attracting broadcasters, and expanding into new territories," stated María García-Castrillón, referring to Matices.
Meanwhile, Sergio Cánovas emphasized the importance of carefully selecting talent by offering them a compelling and career-enhancing project: "Actors need challenges. It’s important to recognize that they have already achieved remarkable milestones throughout their careers, so their priority now is to take on new challenges. Our goal is to create a unique and engaging character for them, presenting it in a captivating way to spark their enthusiasm and commitment to the project."
The eight-episode psychological thriller Matices, created by Sergio Cánovas, Alex Meriweather, and Javier Naya, features a stellar cast led by Maxi Iglesias, Miriam Giovanelli, Juana Acosta, Hovik Keuchkerian, Fariba Sheikhan, Eusebio Poncela, Enrique Arce, Raúl Prieto and Elsa Pataky. A suspenseful story full of unexpected twists, Matices is set to premiere soon on SkyShowtime.
This initiative further establishes Secuoya Studios as a key player at the Berlin International Film Festival, an annual gathering of industry professionals from around the world. This year’s edition is taking place in the German capital from February 13 to 23.
