Garachico hosts the screening of 'Under a volcano' with over 1,200 attendees

On the night of Tuesday, June 17, the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Garachico, Tenerife, was transformed into an open-air cinema to celebrate the pre-premiere of 'Under a volcano', held in the very place where much of the film was shot. The event brought together more than 1,200 people, reflecting the enthusiastic support of both locals and visitors.

The screening was introduced by producer Eduardo Campoy and filmmaker Martín Cuervo, the director of the feature film. Martin Cuervo shared with the audience the great pleasure of filming in a town like Garachico and the value of experiencing the story on the big screen. “Garachico looks spectacular—you’ll see it in the film. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you so much for coming to this screening, and when you see it, recommend it so people go to the theaters in droves,” he said during the event.

Natural beauty as a filming location

During the summer of 2024, the 'Under a volcano' crew, led by actors William Levy and Maggie Civantos, traveled to Garachico to film scenes for this story full of action and romance.

Throughout the film, various corners of the town are showcased, enriching the production with natural landscapes that provide stunning visuals, such as Garachico’s hills and beach, where the volcanic surroundings take center stage and give the film its title and identity.

'Under a volcano'  was also filmed along the seafront promenade, coastal caves, the historic Callejón del Calvario, and the Plaza del Ayuntamiento—the central location for this special screening. These locations added beauty to the narrative, and local residents were able to enjoy seeing their town as the main backdrop for the movie on the big screen.

William Levy ('Montecristo') and Maggie Civantos ('Locked Up') lead a cast that also includes Adriana Torrebejano ('Coartadas'), Elia Galera ('Zorro'), Antón Lofer ('La Bandera'), and Pino Montesdeoca ('Pídeme lo que quieras'). The cast gathered on June 11 in Madrid’s Plaza de Callao for the film’s world premiere, and now they have brought the celebration to one of Garachico’s most iconic squares—making this a symbolic and heartfelt moment for the film crew and the residents of this unique town in northern Tenerife.

Produced by Secuoya Studios alongside Álamo Producciones Audiovisuales, in collaboration with William Levy Entertainment, 'Under a volcano' is distributed by Beta Fiction Spain. The feature is directed by Martín Cuervo, co-written with Irene Niubó, and executive produced by Eduardo Campoy.

This Friday, June 20, Bajo un volcán hits theaters, offering audiences an exciting story filled with action, romance, and touches of humor.
