The studio will be recognized for its sustainable production program on October 15 at MIPCOM Cannes.
Secuoya Studios will receive the MIP SDG Award, presented by MIPCOM Cannes in association with the United Nations, in recognition of the positive impact of its sustainable production program. The award will be presented during the renowned international content market for television and streaming, taking place from October 13 to 16, 2025.
Secuoya Studios: A Commitment to the Environment
This prestigious industry award acknowledges Secuoya Studios’ dedication to reducing the environmental impact of its productions, both internally and across the broader industry. The studio’s sustainability efforts began with environmentally responsible practices implemented during the filming of the series ‘Montecristo’ and ‘Zorro’, and have continued in subsequent projects such as the recently released ‘Matices’ and its latest campaign, ‘El Homenaje’, all shot across different locations in Spain.
“We are very proud to receive this award from MIP and the United Nations. At Secuoya Studios, we understand sustainability as a fundamental commitment that guides how we create, produce, and share content with the world. It’s a commitment rooted in innovation, technology, and strategic partnerships that drive lasting change. Beyond the honor itself, having this space at MIPCOM allows us to demonstrate how universally applicable many of these practices can be,” said Brendan Fitzgerald in response to the recognition.
The award will be presented on October 15 by Caroline Petit, Deputy Director of the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) for Europe. The ceremony will take place at the MIP CREATIVE HUB, where various sustainable initiatives by Secuoya Studios will be highlighted, including the Greenbook—developed by Fundación Secuoya in collaboration with the eco-management consultancy Mrs. Greenfilm; the establishment of the Sustainable Management Seal in partnership with TÜV SÜD; and the creation of the studio’s internal Sustainability in Production department.
A Growing Industry Movement
Caroline Petit congratulated the studio for its dedication and best ecological practices: “I thank MIPCOM CANNES for offering this important annual platform and warmly congratulate Secuoya Studios for its commitment to sustainable production. Their practices reflect a growing movement across the industry and help bring us —together with their audiences— closer to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
For her part, Lucy Smith, Director of MIPCOM CANNES, highlighted the studio’s impact in driving industry-wide change toward greater sustainability: “Television’s ability to make a meaningful impact —both on screen and behind the scenes— remains as vital as ever. We will continue to use our platform, when the global industry gathers, to spotlight this. In the case of sustainable production, by integrating real, measurable actions that reduce the environmental footprint of any production and making these practices accessible to all, Secuoya Studios is leading genuine change. We are proud to showcase these initiatives.”
Created in 2020, the MIP SDG Award recognizes how progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be accelerated through editorial, communication, and business practices within the television industry. Secuoya Studios continues to embody these values in its productions, reaffirming its leadership in the transition toward a more sustainable and socially responsible audiovisual industry.
