A police thriller led by a stellar cast featuring Miguel Bernardeau, Iván Massagué, Marta Etura and Goya Toledo
The series arrives backed by the Hollywood Music in Media Award for Arturo Cardelús’s original score
'Terra Alta', a police thriller that follows the story of a Mossos d'Esquadra officer who risks everything for his principles while being haunted by the ghosts of his past, will premiere on December 4 on Movistar Plus+. Based on the 2019 Premio Planeta–winning novel by Javier Cercas, this new audiovisual adaptation from Secuoya Studios offers a journey into a region marked by historical memory, silenced violence and landscapes that become characters in their own right.
'Terra Alta' features a carefully selected cast. Leading the way is Miguel Bernardeau as Melchor Marín, accompanied by Iván Massagué, Marta Etura, Bea Segura, Goya Toledo, Pere Ponce, Pablo Derqui, Manel Barceló, Jordi Martínez, and a special appearance by Francesc Orella.
The series is created by Eligio R. Montero ('Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles') and written by Eligio R. Montero and Carmen López-Areal ('The Invisible Girl'). It also includes the collaboration of Sydney Borjas and Isabel Vidal, both from Focus Studios.
With six 50-minute episodes and a cinematic staging, 'Terra Alta' stands as one of the year’s most powerful premieres, combining a solid narrative, intense performances and an atmosphere that immerses viewers in a territory where the past is never fully buried.
International recognition for its score
The series comes preceded by a major accolade: Spanish composer and pianist Arturo Cardelús, author of the original score, has just been honored with the Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Score — TV Show/Limited Series (Foreign Language) for his work on 'Terra Alta'. Considered a precursor to the Oscars and Emmys, this prestigious award recognizes musical excellence in visual media and has become a benchmark for the entertainment industry.
'Terra Alta' also marks a milestone in Cardelús’s career: his first score for a Spanish television series, a challenge he has faced with the same ambition and rigor that define his international film work.
Synopsis
Terra Alta, in Tarragona, is a place of wild beauty where the scars of the Civil War still bleed. A peaceful territory — until the murder of Francisco and Rosa Adell, patriarchs of the wealthiest and most powerful family in the area, shakes the community to its core. The case forces Melchor Marín, one of the officers leading the investigation, to confront his dark, complex and long-buried past.
