The Film ‘Padres’ Hits Theaters

Fernando Cayo and Natalia Verbeke take audiences on a journey filled with uncertainty, conflict, and humor

‘Padres’ arrives in theaters, a film produced by Álamo Producciones Audiovisuales and Secuoya Studios in collaboration with A Contracorriente Films. A thriller with touches of humor, it immediately draws viewers into the gripping story of Jaime and Victoria—two recently divorced parents desperate to find their 15-year-old daughter María, who goes missing after attending a festival with her best friend.

Directed and written by filmmaker José Ángel Bohollo, ‘Padres’ has won over critics with an outstanding script that maintains a steady pace throughout the 82-minute thriller.

Natalia Verbeke, the film’s lead actress, describes ‘Padres’ as "a classic-style film that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats for an hour and twenty minutes of suspense and emotion."

Pre-Premiere in Madrid

Ahead of its theatrical release, on February 12, Fernando Cayo ('Money Heist'), Natalia Verbeke ('Everybody Lies'), and Carlos Fuentes ('Invasion') presented ‘Padres’ alongside producer Eduardo Campoy at an event that gathered hundreds of people at Madrid’s Palacio de la Prensa.

Critical Acclaim for ‘Padres’

"The film becomes a battle of information and dialogue, filled with twists and shifting suspicions, anchored by the dynamic duel between Verbeke and Cayo, who rule the stage."
— Arturo Tena (Cine con Ñ)

"A good thriller—and this one certainly is—must keep even the most seasoned viewer guessing until the very last scene."
— Manuel López Sampalo (La Razón)

"‘Padres’ is absolutely exemplary in maintaining intrigue and tension. Bohollo achieves something incredibly difficult: ensuring the pace never falters, continuously building up to the climax. Even more impressively, he accomplishes this solely through dialogue and in a single setting—practically one room in a house."
— Pablo de Santiago (Decine21)

"From its striking opening credits, reminiscent of Saul Bass’s style, to its unsettling soundtrack, ‘Padres’ crafts a thriller steeped in the elegance and suspense of Hitchcock’s finest work."
